In his article entitled EDI-based and XML-based business-to-business integration: a statistical analysis, Frends architect Juha-Miikka Nurmilaakso D.Sc.(Tech.), M.Soc.Sc. analyzes the influence that technical, organizational and environmental factors have on inter-organizational integration. The article was published in the International Journal of Business Information Systems in September of 2009.
According to Nurmilaakso, both the use of ERP, SCM, and CRM systems and the size of the organization in question can positively facilitate B2Bi. The volume of sales and the educational level of employees can also have a positive impact on integration. "If a company integrates its enterprise information systems with its business partners, it has higher technological capabilities to do e-business", Nurmilaakso summarizes.
Nurmilaakso 's article is based on an e-Business Survey that was carried out in 2004-2005 using CATI technology and polled 5218 individuals from ten industries in seven European countries. The paper expands on Nurmilaakso's doctoral dissertation, in which he analyzed how XML-based e-business frameworks support B2Bi.
